Hi Sierra,

Quote:
garee please don't make statements like that which scripture doesn't back up! You may not believe in the gift of tongues and probably may not believe in any of the gifts of the Spirit being in operation in the church today, but that's your indoctrination, not Scripture. Since the spiritual gifts are for the edifying and building up of the body of Christ, I see nowhere in scripture where the body of Christ no longer needs edifying and built up! In fact more so do we need it as the last days approach.

Thanks for your concern, like you said gifts are for the edification of the Body of Christ, your admonishment is a gift which builds up the body also .But this could not be so if I could not read English and I had no one to interpret your words, your words would not be a gift that would have
the mutual benefit of encouraging each others faith

This is the point I was attempting to make about the Latin Mass in which I lacked the knowledge .I was corrected when Msc informed me of ( They have it written in their known language).I stand corrected concerning this but believe my point of remaining silent in the church unless there is a interpreter still applies if there was no written or oral interpreter for them to use.

But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. 1Cor14:28

Now concerning tongues I believe that this gift has ceased at the closing of Gods revealed thoughts to man, God is no longer speaking through various manners which would include
Urim and the Thummim, tongues, apparitions ,the casting of lots, signs and wonders, donkeys ,etc, his word is complete(perfect) and not lacking any new revelation.

For this reason we can be sure that we are not deceived by the father of lies as he attempts to break the silence with false signs and wonders as the perfect will of Almighty God moves steadily and faithfully towards its conclusion recorded for us in the book of Revelations.

He now speaks through His Son in the person of the Holy Spirit who comforts us with the whole council of God which is contained within the confines of Holy scripture alone.

God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high:Heb 1:1

To assure that we remain faithful to His voice for our comfort and protection, the Holy Spirit has graciously left a ominous warning to not go beyond what is written with additions or subtractions in the diverse manners that the Holy Spirit used to bring His word to completion.

For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.Rev 22:18

I do believe that the gift of tongues was very instrumental in building the perfect word of God.A necessary gift for the spreading of the Gospel, but I believe it has ceased just as other manners such as Urim and the Thummim etc.

Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.1Co
13:8

It is not my indoctrination to exclude any of the gifts of the Spirit, but the one we only knew in part (Scripture was not complete) ceased when the word was perfect(complete).

But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.1Co 13:10

In Christ, Garee
