while your interpretation of death as separation is correct, you use it in too limited a way.

Physical death is the separation of body and spirit.

but death can also and is described in scripture a a separation of us from God. we were dead in our tresspasses were we not. Paul says we died to our old selves (flesh) does he not.

When Jesus said, "why have you forsaken me" to His Father it was at this moment He became our sin, our separation from God in our place. for that short time God had abandoned Jesus because of our transgressions (not any of His own since he was sinless). this is the miracle of propitiation

Brother John
All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16)
