So you're confused? You must not have been paying attention at Mass when you were Catholic.

It's all about Jesus. It's a re-presentation of His once-for-all Sacrifice, re-presented in the consecrated bread and wine, His body and blood. It's praise of God, giving glory to God, repenting to God, thanking God, petitioning God for particular ways to take care of His world.

The readings are about God, about Jesus. Even the Gospel reading I think we'll hear - about Mary's visit to Elizabeth - is really about Jesus. It features Mary - she gives her Canticle, which includes the words "all generations shall call me blessed." But she's only called blessed because of Jesus. She was pregnant with Jesus at the time.

Are you unconfused now?
